Spirulina Chocolate Christmas Trees

Christmas season is here! This adorable superfood chocolate is really simple and easy to make (plus it's really good for you!) Perfect for a chrissy gathering or pressies for your mates and family.

What you'll need:

  • 250g of cacao butter
  • 1 Tbsp spirulina
  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp Connect Foods Chia Seeds

Bring some water to boil in the kettle. Using a double boiler (or just two metal bowls that fit nested inside one another), place cacao butter in the smaller bowl, and pour boiling water in the larger bowl. Use a small whisk to stir the cacao butter as it melts slowly. This method will help ensure that the chocolate does not burn and gets an even consistency.

Add maple syrup and spirulina to the cacao butter. Stir with whisk until combined.

Line a square cake pan with wax paper on the bottom. Pour green chocolate mixture into the pan, being sure that it is spread evenly. Pop the pan into the fridge for about a minute or two, and allow it to set just a bit, but not all the way.

Take the pan out and sprinkle Connect Foods Chia Seeds over the top. Use another sheet of wax paper to gently press the chia seeds into the chocolate. Place pan back into the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.

Remove from fridge and gently flip the pan over onto a cutting board.

These little trees are all about the way you cut them.

First trim the edges to create a perfect square:

Then cut into strips of thirds.

Using an alternating angle, cut strips down the line to create perfectly even little Christmas Trees.

Gently peel apart and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
